How it started.
Salt & Juniper Press started as an idea in the mind and heart of Michelle Wilson, a published Latter-day Saint author. Through nearly a decade of publishing with Deseret Book and Covenant Communications, Michelle discovered a love of helping others get their voices heard.
However, in the Latter-day Saint nonfiction market, that arena is small, with only a handful of publishers to choose from. During a pivot point in her life in 2021, Michelle realized she was ready and wanting to step outside her role of author and speaker and create another place where others, like her, can publish their insights and stories. S&J is not a competitor, but an emerging ally in the effort to shine God's light through "small and simple things" (Alma 37:6).
Thoughts and insights, letters and words--these things may feel small and simple to some. But, these are exactly the things that Got can use to make great things come to pass (Alma 37:6). We at S&J hope to accomplish great things through our books and anthologies, things that might not change the world, but hopefully can help God change the people in it, one small and simple thing at a time.

The meaning behind the name
Jesus said we are the salt of the earth (Matthew 5:13). Each of us has a unique faith and personality that enhances life and brings a richness to the world we live in. We know our purpose and find joy in it. But, we all have times we struggle. As single or married, parents, children, siblings, friends, or disciples, each of us carry burdens that are often quite heavy. We may find ourselves, at times, feeling like Elijah as he lay under a juniper tree (1 Kings 19:4)--down, dejected, or even hopeless and ready to give up.
Latter-day Saints live in a unique time as we strive the build the Kingdom of God on earth. Salt & Juniper's goal is to help saints around the world look beyond the principles of the gospel to the real and amazing application of it in their lives. We strive to help all see their value as "salt of the earth" and, when they feel as Elijah did, that they are not alone and there is still work to do.
We are about hope and peace, understanding and perspective. We will not publish anything contrary to the doctrines of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
